Abbaye de Sylvanès

The abbey dates back to the middle of the XII century and it was abandoned for a long time and sold to private owners during the French Revolution. It was transformed into a grange and only in 1970 it was bought by the village of Sylvanès. The “Association des amis de l’Abbaye de Sylvanès” took care of the restoration. The single-nave building is characterised by a double-pitched façade with two simple portals embrasured with a round arch and a big Gothic three-mullioned window with multicoloured glass. The inside is simple, built of exposed stones, with pointed arches, a transept and a square apse. An extraordinary refectory with cross vaults and a loggia with twin columns and pointed arches are attached to the church. A festival of holy music takes place here during the summer.
